Solarfective Products helping to "green" the high-rise office

Solarfective Products was a proud supplier of RBC Centre, a 40 story office building in downtown Toronto. The project received the Green Award of the year at the 9th annual NAIOP REX Awards.

In collaboration with Somfy Canada, Solarfective innovately designed and installed a window covering system that automatically controls heat and light, while maintaining views to the outside. The shade system was comprised of an internal light shelf coupled with a motorized roller blind that lowers automatically (while the light shelf rotates upward) in response to solar intensity and potential glare. When the light shelf is in the down position, sunlight is reflected deep into the office space for glare-free lighting. When the incoming sun angle changes and may create a glare, the automated light shelf retracts to the shading condition and the motorized blinds lower. The system has proven to lower energy consumption within the building, while maximizing human comfort with glare reduction and increased natural sunlight levels.
